Glorify God

'I cry out to God Most High, to God, who vindicates me. '
Psalms 57:2NIV®

We all cry. We cry when we are in pain, we cry when we are in distress. Tears go hand in hand when we cry. That’s how we are wired.

My younger daughter is 23 months old. When she cries, I wonder where all those tears come from within her small body. Her face is wet with tears. Usually, she cries if I refuse her something or I scold her for disobeying.
She is unable to understand why I scold her. She is upset for not getting her way and it comes out in the form of a huge crying session.

David too cried. There was this time when David was crying out in desperation to God. He was running away from his persecutor, King Saul. He was hiding in a cave.

A cave is no fancy place to be in. These caves were not like the ones we see as tourists. It’s dark, cold, wet, dirty and we don’t know what’s lurking behind those stones.

Although David and Saul were on the same team, Saul could not bear the popularity David gained.
So, when Saul tried to make various attempts to kill David, he was obviously worried. David knew he was next in line to the throne. He could have killed Saul, but he knew that Saul was also God’s anointed one. He did not want to lay a finger on whom God had chosen. So, left with no other option he fled. Although not a criminal, he went into hiding.

We’ve had times in life  - when we were harmed when we had to experience a painful phase which we did not deserve. Those are times we ask God – Why?
We need an explanation to ‘why’ a certain situation is not clearing up.
We need to know ‘why’ a certain thing is happening. We need to know ‘why’ someone treated us wrong.

David could have asked the why’s. But he knew that in time of despair, the right question to ask God is ‘What should I do?’

When David was hiding in the cave, probably tired, angry and hungry, he did not sing the blues. He sang praises to God.

David trusted God to accomplish God’s plan. He let God be in charge.
He knew that all things happen for a reason.

Right now, my younger daughter may not understand why I don’t let her climb on the kitchen drawers or don’t let her touch sharp tools. She may not understand why it’s not ok to do certain things that she finds fun. All that I am doing as a parent is to protect her from possible harm.

God has the same interest for us. There are reasons we would never know in our lifetime as to ‘why’ a certain thing happened. But it’s important to trust God and His ways.

David did not ask ‘Why?’ to God. Instead, he knew what God expects us to do during the trial – It’s to glorify God.

Enjoy this song and have a blessed time with Jesus.
